How to Arrive Here

There are a variety of ways to arrive here. We have included links to the primary services of bus and train.

Location:

Quinta da Luz is situated in Beira Alta, less than 20 minutes from Seia which sits almost halfway up the 1993 mts (6539 ft) of Serra da Estrela. Seia is located just off the N17 which runs from Coimbra to Celorico da Beira and Guarda. The Quinta is on the edge of the village of Lajes, accessible by turning off the N231 between Nelas and Seia and from the N17 via Rio Torto.

By Aeroplane:

Lisbon and Porto are served by a variety of flights, about two hours flying time from England, Holland and Germany. Lisbon airport is about three hours drive and Porto two hours from Lajes.

By Train:

There is an intercity service (www.cp.pt) which runs between Lisbon (Santa Apolonia and Oriente) and Porto (Campanha). Both are served by Metros from their respective airports to the central train stations. Our nearest station is Nelas, which is on the line from Lisbon and Porto to Guarda and beyond.

The trains take about three hours to Nelas. The intercity service is not very frequent and so it is usual to change at a point such as Coimbra B and perhaps wait for the local service to Nelas. The ticket office will provide the details.

On the intercity expect to be allocated a seat in one of the carriages, the carriage number is visible on the outside of the carriage – though often on a less crowded train it is not unusual to find someone in the seat! If you are not inclined to spend time waiting for the connection, there is a regular and fast bus service next to Coimbra B station. This serves Oliviera da Hospital and Seia – both are less than 30 minutes from the Quinta.

We offer a shuttle service to and from Nelas, it is less than 30 minutes from the Quinta. Ideally text us with the expected time of arrival at Nelas. Should you decide to take a taxi we suggest you download here a copy of our local map to show to the driver.

By Bus:

Portugal is well served by buses. The nearest depots are at Nelas and Seia, both less than 30 minutes from the Quinta. The local tourism office will be able to provide a timetable, or search for bus timetables.

We offer a shuttle service to and from Seia bus station and Nelas, both are less than 30 minutes from the Quinta. Ideally text us with the expected time of arrival at Seia or Nelas.

By Car:

The Quinta is about a three hour drive from Lisbon airport, two hours from Porto airport. Both use the motorways with tolls.
